Prices for new homes in Florida are on the rise. Though the prices have been steadily increasing for homes across the state, the mortgage interest rates have been falling too, prompting more first time buyers to take the plunge to buy new homes in Florida.

Demand for new homes across the state of Florida remains strong and as a result prices continues to go up. According to the Florida Association of Realtors (FAR), Floridas existing single-family home median price was $195,900 in December 2004. This represents a jump of nearly 22 percent from last year's median price of $160,600.

Florida existing median prices have shot up nearly 82% from 1999 when the median home price of an existing single family was $107,200. The median is the midpoint, which is a typical market price where half of the homes sold for more and half for less.

Actually Florida's median home price when compared to median prices in some states like California, New York, etc., is quite cheap. The cost of living is also quite reasonable compared to the California. Some place like Jacksonville and Cape Coral offer far more affordable housing prices than some other areas of Florida.

Florida may have been hit by more than its fair share of hurricanes this year but that is not usually the case. The weather in Florida is usually idyllic - warm and sunny. This beautiful climate is one of the reasons why new homes in Florida are in such high demand.
