The Newest, Strongest Addition to Florida Homes
Florida´s propensity for being smacked by hurricanes has always irritated the state´s population, but the increasing magnitude and frequency of the latest hurricanes has locals looking for new ways to protect their Florida homes, belongings and themselves.
One new item on the market designed for Florida homes and commercial properties is DuPont´s StormRoom, a Kevlar and cedar shelter that “can withstand winds of up to 250 mph and more than 80,000 pounds of weight.”
The shelters are quickly growing popular with Florida housing developments. They resemble closets and blend in nicely in Florida homes, but “unlike a typical closet, the room is bolted into a 4-inch concrete slab in the floor.”
Ten people can fit into the shelters, but they can also serve as a safe-deposit box. People can “put their belongings in the room, lock them up and can feel pretty comfortable their belongings are safe,” even if their Florida homes have been damaged or blown away.
