Katrina Damages 205 Florida Homes
In total, Hurricane Katrina destroyed 19 Florida homes, 14 in Broward County and five in Miami-Dade, and serious damage was caused to 205 Florida homes in Miami-Dade, Broward and Monroe counties. Most damage was caused by flooding.
Although the Federal Emergency Management Agency has not yet decided whether it will aid Florida homeowners, the relatively small amount of damage done to Florida homes casts doubt, especially since many of the agency´s "resources have been shifted to the Gulf Coast."
However, on August 28th, Miami-Dade and Broward counties received "federal reimbursement for expenses incurred by local governments within 72 hours of the storm -- including money spent on emergency crews." Florida "has also requested aid for Monroe County."
