A New Player in the Central Florida Home Sales Market
Meritage Homes Corp., an Arizona based real estate company, has announced that it plans to buy Florida home builder Greater Homes Inc. In September at an undisclosed price.
Co-chairman and CEO of Meritage Homes John R. Landon called the acquisition "an integral part of the Meritage growth strategy." The company´s interest in Greater Homes is due to the amazing rate at which Florida homes are being sold. According to Landon, more building permits were issued for Florida homes in 2004 than for homes in any other state.
Meritage´s acquisition of Greater Homes and the Fort Myers-Naples Florida division of Colonial Homes in February is fueling the company´s "start-up operation in Central Florida." Meaning that Meritage is fast on its way to becoming a leader in Florida home sales and construction.
