Florida Real Estate Prices and Rapid Construction Cause Parking Shortage

The boom in Florida real estate construction and increasing Florida real estate prices are the two primary factors in the shortage of statewide parking.

As Florida real estate prices rise, the number of family members living in a single-family home increases as well. Adult children can´t afford to rent or buy, so they live with their parents, and large families that can´t afford large homes crowed into homes that are too small. Most, if not all, of the adults in these families have cars, and as garages fill to capacity or get torn down to make room for additional living space, neighborhood streets and even lawns are becoming more and more crowded with cars.

Residents “are demanding that cities get tough, especially against illegal apartments carved out of single-family homes that force tenants to park on already clogged streets.” Developers will also have to accept their due share by developing more parking with their new Florida real estate. A few of the suggestions for especially congested areas include “promoting valet parking at conds, encouraging more circular drives at single-family homes and even creating public parking lots.”
